Dance Projects

“Notorious”

In February-April 2021, I choreographed an audition piece for the 2021 Dance Spectrum Showcase, “Dancing through the ages. I chose to choreograph to 3 songs by the Notorious B.I.G. (aka Biggy Smalls) in a hip hop style inspired by the 90’s hip hop era in America.

“F&MU”

In January 2021, my friend Izzy and I choreographed a short routine together and taught it at an outdoor dance class for some of our fellow students in our school’s dance class.

TEDx

In January of 2020, the organizers of the MVHS TEDx event asked my friends and I (Ashley Chang, Allie Nguyen, and Stephanie Dancel, together known as the “3C Crew”) to create a dance and perform it for their “Breaking Barriers” talk series. Within a few months, we choreographed this piece and performed it in front of our fellow MVHS peers. Below is the description of the piece.

This piece was inspired by the Breaking Barriers theme in the sense that all four dancers, each having different dance experiences, came together to create a unique hip-hop piece. Incorporating each of their different styles, this piece showcases fun grooves and isolations that break the limits of traditional choreography. Stephanie Dancel, Ashley Chang, Allie Nguyen, Elisa Fong-Hirschfelder are all members of Mountain View High School’s Dance Spectrum program where students study dance and choreograph their own performances. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community.”
